Betsy Ann Judd is one of the great designers from Ohio we are excited to feature at FMMF 2015! Get to know her a little better…

FMMF: How would you describe your style of design?

Betsy Ann Judd: I have a very clean and modern sense of design,  something that is minimalistic is the most appealing to my eye so all of my designs come together in the end being very futuristic and minimalistic.

FMMF: How has music inspired your designs or design process?

BAJ: Whenever I design a collection I like the clothes to evoke a very specific mood and feeling whether someone is looking at the clothes or actually wearing them.  For myself for this to be possible always pick a song that the collection relates back too.  I will sketch up a ton of different options for a line and then imagine each one walking down a runway to the song I have chosen and if it doesn’t seem like it matches then its out!  Theres certain songs and artists out there that just make me stop what I’m doing and no matter what kind of mood I’m in, pulls me into the feeling of the song and takes me away with it.  Thats what I want my clothes to do to people.

FMMF: Other than music, where do you get your inspiration from?

BAJ: I get a lot of inspiration from social media, specifically Instagram and Tumblr.  My feed is seriously 95% clothing or color inspiration.  I also get a lot of inspiration form the colors in nature.

FMMF: What’s one thing about you that people might not know?

BAJ: Even though my style now is extremely clean and minimalistic I used to be obsessed with nautical themed everything, I would seriously wear an anchor everyday!  Everything I made my first year of design school was inspired by the ocean, thankfully I stepped away from all of that and now have a much more mature style.

FMMF: What are you looking forward to the most about Fashion Meets Music Festival?

BAJ: All the artists!  I love being around creative people and since graduating from CCAD they seem harder to come by.  I’m looking forward to being back in the creative atmosphere.

FMMF: If you could design a custom piece for any musician, who would you create it for and what would it be?

BAJ: I am constantly wowed by what FKA Twigs wears.  She has an amazing sense of style and in some of the videos I have seen of her she coordinates the bands outfits with I love.  I would want to design a Met Gala look for her.  She is stunning so I think she can pull off anything.  I would make her a ballgown crisp white neoprene skirt with a heavily embellished but still simple top.
